On the occasion of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, and as part of the implementation of the policy on the employment and accessibility for staff members with disabilities in the United Nations Secretariat, the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) and the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), in the Department of Management, are pleased to announce the launch of accessibility features on the United Nations Careers Portal.
New accessibility features
Searching and applying for jobs online or navigating websites can be frustrating, if not impossible, for persons with disabilities, which limits their access to first-hand information. To address this issue, an “accessibility” button now appears on the top-left hand side of the Careers Portal homepage. A drop-down menu allows users with disabilities to access the content and functionalities of the Careers Portal and learn more about working at the United Nations.
The new accessibility features include adjustments to monitor settings, keyboard navigation, and the ability to function with a wide range of standard assistive technologies, such as screen readers and alternative keyboards. These features are available in both English and French.
Coming soon to inspira
This improved access to the United Nations’ recruitment portal will be followed in the coming weeks, by similar features on inspira, the recruitment platform for the Secretariat.
These enhancements are a part of the United Nations’ commitment to providing equal employment opportunity to all and reaffirms the 2030 Agenda pledge to “leave no one behind”.
We further invite all who may have experienced barriers to inclusion using the facilities and services at UN Headquarters to respond to the Inter-Departmental Task Force on Accessibility survey to further promote accessibility initiatives and enhancements: English | French
