The new Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations, New York, His Excellency Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk presented his credentials to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki –moon on Thursday, 08 January 2009. Kutshab was accompanied by the Deputy Permanent Representative, Aum Nima Ome, and Consul General Sangye Rinchen.
Ambassador Wangchuk conveyed to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon the good wishes of His Majesty the 4th Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty the 5th Druk Gyalpo, and H.E. Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley.
Discussing the visionary changes that have taken place in Bhutan in the past year, the Secretary General said he was much impressed by the successful parliamentary elections and the adoption of the Constitution, and highlighted the visionary roles of Their Majesties, the 4th and 5th Druk Gyalpo in guiding the peaceful transition of Bhutan to a Democratic Constitutional Monarchy. Secretary General ban Ki-moon conveyed his greetings to Their Majesties and the Prime Minster, and remarked that he was looking forward to visiting Bhutan in the future.
Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk took over as the new Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations, New York, in a simple tendrel conducted on December 31st 2008.
