Message from the Ambassador & Permanent Representative
Welcome to the website of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York!
The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh started functioning in 1974, when Bangladesh became a Member of the United Nations. Our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly stated the policy of “friendship to all, malice to none”, that has been anchored as the cornerstone of the foreign policy of Bangladesh. Since then, during the last four decades, this Mission has participated actively in all areas of the UN. Through active engagement and substantive contribution, the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh has earned its place of respect in the UN community.
The Mission actively participates in the plenary and almost all committees of the General Assembly. Bangladesh is now a Member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and is substantively engaged in that UN Charter Body.
The Mission is active in the area of peacekeeping and peacebuilding. Being a champion of global peace, Bangladesh is now a leading troop contributing country for UN peacekeeping missions. The Mission has been the proponent, and has facilitated the UN resolution on Culture of Peace for several years. Bangladesh is also vocal for ensuring peoples’ rights all over the world, and is a voice of conscience. The Mission is deeply committed to establish and promote the rights of the differently abled persons, reflected through our involvement with World Autism Day. The Mission takes a lead role in economic and social areas, and has been contributing substantively in the present debates of climate change, sustainable development, and migration and development.
As the Chair of the 9th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), Bangladesh would endeavor to mobilize all the Member States of the United Nations, civil society and other stakeholders to work for a safe, orderly and regular migration through strengthening of the rights of migrants.
As the current Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), it is the responsibility of this Mission to protect and promote the interests of the Least Developed Countries in all forums, particularly in the areas of economic and social aspects. The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh has been leading the Group of Least Developed Countries since October 2015.
We appreciate your visiting the website of our Mission. We will be very happy to hear your views on any issue that involves this Mission, or any question that you may have.
