On May 11 this year the meeting of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak took place at the Residence of Durmen, the reports by national news agencies have said.

The two leaders have discussed the state and prospects of the Uzbek-Korean relations. They have also exchanged views on the problems of regional and international significance of their interest.

Islam Karimov and Lee Myung-bak have noted that the relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea were developing in the spirit of Joint declaration on strategic partnership inked in 2006 between the two parties.

The presidents have expressed their confidence that this visit would take the relations of Uzbekistan and South Korea up to a qualitatively new level.

Then, according to the reports, the talks continued with participation of delegations of the two countries. At the talks a main attention was paid to the issues of trade, economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation.

With talks coming to an end, the two presidents are reported to have signed the Joint Statement of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Republic of Korea.
