On March 27-28 this year the Upper House of the bicameral parliament of Uzbekistan – the Senate of Oliy Majlis – held its eighteenth plenary session in Tashkent.

As the Information Agency “Jahon” wrote on March 19 this year, reflecting on the preparations for the session, for over the two-day session and active debates the senators, among other issues in their competency, considered the role and accountability of local bodies of power in terms of unconditional implementation of the Anti-crisis program for 2009-2012 and a number of laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Along with that, at the plenary session the Uzbek senators have considered and listened to the report by the minister of justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the state of implementation of laws by bodies of state power, law-enforcement and controlling agencies in 2008.

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan also spoke before the senators on the activity of prosecutorial bodies in 2008. Among other speakers there was a chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Nature Protection.

At the same time, the senators have summoned the Authorized of Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) to speak about the work accomplished in 2008.

Still, among other issues on the agenda the Uzbek senators considered the appointment of heads of diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan abroad.

Thus, on March 28, acting in line with powers granted by the newly revised and adopted Constitution of Uzbekistan, the Chairman of Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sobirov has signed the Resolution on appointing the following diplomats to lead the Uzbek diplomatic missions abroad:

Fayziev Sherzod Miraglamovich has been appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan.

At the same time, Sabitov Shukur Abdurakhmanovich has been appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Malaysia.

According to the text of the Resolution, the latter enters into force starting from the day of its adoption – March 28.

Both top-ranking diplomats are known to have earlier served in the system of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.
