In 2007 the drip irrigation technology was installed at the Ilonsoy agroinvest fruit and vegetable production farm in Samarkand District in Samarkand Province, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency.
Thanks to modern Israeli technologies the problem of irrigation has been addressed that has allowed to increase the crop capacity for 1,5-2 times at 60 hectares of land.
This year as a part of the Year of Development and Improvement of Countryside State Program the Okhalik oltin boghi mevasi farm in the district accomplishes work on implementing the drip irrigation technology at 500 hectares of land, where the fruits and vegetables are cultivated, according to the news agency report.
“The lands at foothills of Okhalik are mainly irrigated using pumps,” the deputy administrator of the farm Ikrom Sultonov said. “For over the last year we had encountered the problem with water. This year along with our partner – Jambay Lazzat-meva Joint-Stock Company – we have started to bring in the installations for drip irrigation. At the moment, all necessary work has been accomplished at 340 hectares of land.”
The drip irrigation system is administered by computers and by this way each bush will get a required quantity of moisture. Besides, the chemical fertilizers will be also added to the water for irrigation. The latest technologies will allow to cut down the consumption of water and fertilizers for several times, and above all – increase the crop capacity.
“The costs for installing the technology of drip irrigation are high,” the chairman of the Samarkand regional union of water users Yunus Mukhtarov has said. “But it is worth considering that at the same time the expenses for water will go down. Besides, if the farmer gains an intended crop capacity then these means will be completely covered during 2-3 years. We explain all this to farmers and we are trying to broadly introduce this system.”
