Enhancing the role and status of women in society, their social activity is under special attention in our country. Needless to say that the welfare and prosperity, harmony and stability in a society largely depends on our women, mothers and sisters.

On March 7 the Turkiston Palace hosted a ceremony, dedicated to the International Women’s Day. Women from all areas of life, members of the women’s committees, local community consultants on the issues of religious education and moral upbringing, laureates of Zulfiya State prize, senators, members of the Legislative Chamber, representatives of ministries and agencies, public organisations participated at the event.

Earlier that day they visited the Mustaqillik (Independence) Square and laid flowers at the Monument of Independence and Humanism- a symbol of our freedom, bright future and noble aspirations.

A solemn ceremony was opened  by Tashkent city khokim (mayor) R.Usmanov. The State Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Kh.Sultanov read out the festive greetings by President Islam Karimov.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairwoman of the country’s women’s of the country's women committee E.Basithanova noted that under the guidance of  President Islam Karimov extensive works to ensure the lawful rights and interests of women and to provide them with decent conditions, to demonstrate their abilities and potential, protection of the family, motherhood and childhood has been yielding good results.

The presidential decree "On additional measures to support the activities of the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan" dated May 25, 2004 is an important factor in the further increase of women’s public activity, creating opportunities for education, work, to demonstrate their talent and capacities.

Efforts to further improve the material and technical base of medical institutions, to strengthen attention to women, especially teenage girls, regular in-depth medical examination of women of childbearing age, to embrace "Healthy mother - healthy child" principle in our society has been continuing consistently.

Special study and training groups for girls in all educational institutions serve in their moral development and preparation for family life, increases their social responsibility.  The decree of President Islam Karimov "On additional measures to stimulate employees of self-governing bodies" from July 9, 2012 is an important factor in increasing the effectiveness of the work among in the local communities, in ensuring the safety of families, youth education.

This year, declared by the the head of the state a Year of prosperity and well-being, the scope of work to create decent conditions for women, to improve their health is even more widening.

Zulfiya state prize, established at the initiative of President Islam Karimov, is aimed to support,  to realize aspirations of young women, who set an example for their peers through their achievements in literature, art, science, education and culture. The girls, awarded Zulfiya State Prize this year in accordance with the decree of the President of our country, were presented with these awards in a solemn ceremony.

- I am proud that I was born in an independent country, where there is a constant attention and care for girls, there is a support for their creative pursuits and aspirations, - says the winner of the Zulfiya State prize, third-year student of the faculty of physical training of the Jizzakh State pedagogical Institute Iroda Matmuradova. - In response to the care and high confidence of the President I feell we have a duty to study hard and work tirelessly for the prosperity of our country.

Zulfiya State prize winners - first-year journalism student at the Karakalpak State University Aysholpan Orazymbetova, third-year student of the College of Education in Angor district, Surkhandarya region Sarvinoz Shaydullaeva expressed their sincere gratitude to President Islam Karimov for the support and promotion of women,  constant attention and care for the further improvement of their activity in the society. Zulfiya state prize winners - first-year student of the academic lyceum under Bukhara State University Nafosat Jurabekova, a second-year student of the Oltinkul agro-economic college in Andijan region Saidabonu Abdusalomova read out the poem "Mushoira" ("Poetry Contest") by the  national poet of Uzbekistan Zulfiya in Uzbek and English.

Chairman of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan Sherzod Gulomov, chairman of the Tashkent city branch of "Mahalla"  Charity Foundation Javdat Inagamov noted that supporting women serves for the future prosperity of our country, upbringing of a healthy and harmoniously developed generation, to ensure the welfare of families and congratulated the women on this occasion.

An exhibition, dedicated to the development of national crafts, was organized at the Palace lobby.

The celebrations were followed by a music concert of well-known and young performers.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.Sabirov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber D.Tashmuhamedova, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sh.Mirziyoyev.
