Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Lamberto Zannier met with Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic Uzbekistan Bakhodir Matlyubov on 23 January.
During the talks it was noted cooperation between Uzbekistan and OSCE along with other directions is developing in security sector, many joint prospective projects are under implemention.
The Ministry has established persistent cooperation with OSCE. A special attention is paid to training of ministry personnel, publication of relevant documents and literature, strengthening effective interaction between governmental bodies, courts and national human rights institutions. In particular, in 2009-2012 about 30 seminars and trainings were held in cooperation with the OSCE.
The resource centre on human rights, operating at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was also organized with OSCE support. The computer database of this centre, which is equipped with modern information technologies, has national legislation and and international documents on human rights.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Internal affairs the issues of further strengthening cooperation on countering terrorism, extremism, and human trafficking crimes. The sides exchanged views on security and stability issues. talks, the sides considered issues on further strengthening cooperation in fighting terrorism, extremism, and human trafficking. They also exchanged opinion on strengthening security and stability.
OSCE Secretary General also met with Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Rashid Kadirov. It was noted that the works by law enforcement bodies on human rights protection, strenthening lawfulness are giving their results. The issues of further reinforcing cooperation in countering terrorism, human trafficking illegal narcotics trade and other international threats were considered during the meeting.
The members of the OSCE delegation also were received by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan Dilorom Tashmukhammedova. During the talks the parties exchanged opinions on legislative, legal reforms, political parties’ activity. It was underlined that the reforms, that encompass all spheres of Uzbek society support balanced and steady development.
-Uzbekistan is the most closely cooperating country in Central Asia, - said Lamberto Zannier. - Currently terrorism, human traffickings and drugs trade present a huge danger for many countries of the world, which asks for countering them. OSCE hopes to further strenghthen cooperation with Uzbekistan in security reinforcement, countering crimes, human tranfficing.
OSCE Secretary General held other meetings in several ministries and organisations as well.
