The national association of non-governmental organisations of Uzbekistan held a round table meeting on the role of civil society in ensuring democratic change, people's interests, rights and freedoms.
Chairman of the national association of non-governmental organisations of Uzbekistan A.Karimov, chairwoman of the Federation of Trade Unions T.Narbaeva and others noted that more than two hundred legal documents and regulations in this area have been adopted, the total number of NGOs has reached around six thousand as a result of measures, taken in line with the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society, proposed by President Islam Karimov.
This year the non-profit organization have carried out extensive work to strengthen the family and to promote healthy lifestyle among the population, to improve the legal, economic awareness among young people and develop social partnership. In 2013 further attention will be paid to continue efforts in this direction, improving the living standards of the people, strengthening the role and value of local self-governance communities (mahalla) in social and economic life of the society.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the ministries of justice, health, labour and social protection, public education, higher and secondary special education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the "Mahalla" Charity Foundation, local authorities, the Independent Monitoring Institute of the formation of civil society , non-profit organizations.
The seminar-training on projects with the financial assistance of the Public Fund to support NGOs and other civil society institutions in the Oly Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was also held within the meeting.
The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the chairman of the Women's Committee E.Basithanova.
