History of Mission
Tuvalu became the 189th member of the United Nations in September 5, 2000.
In 2001, the Permanent Mission of Tuvalu to the United Nations was established in Manhattan, New York.
Since its establishment, Ambassador Enele Sosene Sopoaga took charge of the Mission with the assistance of Ms. Salilo Enele. Later on, the Mission was joined by Deputy Permanent Representative, Mr. Minute Taupo and Ms. Seleta Taupo. Mr. Jeremy Ovia became the Mission's chauffeur.
In December 2006, the Mission welcomed it's second Ambassador, Afelee Falema Pita. At this time, the Mission was downsized due to financial implications. Ms. Lita Pita and Mr. Tofiga Saosaoa Tinilau became support staff for the Mission.
