Length:            700 kilometers from West to East, 350 kilometers from north to south. In the West and North, Tajikistan has borders with Uzbekistan (910 kilometers) and Kyrgyzstan (630 kilometers); in the South with Afghanistan (1, 030 kilometers), and in the East with China (430 kilometers).
Climate: - Continental. January from +220C (Panj) to -610C (Lake Bulunkul), July from -80C (Lake Bulunkul) to +450C (Panj).



On December 11, 1999, Majlisi Oli (Parliament) of the Republic of Tajikistan approved, by its decree, the State's Symbols of the Republic of Tajikistan. According to the decree, the Flag and the Emblem of Tajikistan are symbols of state sovereignty.



The National Emblem of the Republic of Tajikistan's represents a stylized crown with a semicircle of seven stars around it, lit up by rays of the sun rising from behind the snow peaked mountains, and framed by a wreath, with spikes of wheat on the right and branches of cotton on the left. The wreath is interweaved with a three colored ribbon. At the bottom there is a book resting on a support.

State flag

The state flag of the Republic of Tajikistan represents a rectangular panel composed of three horizontally located colored stripes. The top red stripe and the bottom green stripe are equal in size, while the middle white stripe is 1,5 times the size of the other two. The white stripe depicts a stylized golden crown with a semicircle of seven stars around it. The ratio of the flag's width to length is 1:2.

The green color symbolizes the Tajik valleys (97 % of the Tajikistan territory are mountainous); the white color stands for cotton, the primary wealth of Tajikistan, and also for snow and glaciers of Tajikistan mountains peaks, while the red color symbolizes the unity of the Republic and brotherhood with other nations of the world.
