It’s not too late to attend the Global Citizen Festival, to be held in Central Park, New York City on 28 September 2013. The Concert will be headlined by UN Messenger of Peace Stevie Wonder, with performances from Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys and John Mayer.
In its second year, the concert is organized by the Global Poverty Project, and presented in partnership with the Cotton On Foundation, to coincide with and celebrate the work of the UN General Assembly and to encourage activism from residents of New York and citizens around the world on issues of poverty and development. In 2012, the Global Citizen Festival drew 60,000 attendees who gathered on the Great Lawn of Central Park, and an additional 15 million people tuned into the live webcast.
The Department of Public Information (DPI) has established a unique partnership with the Global Poverty Project (GPP) to draw attention to the successes of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the need to accelerate progress on health, education, equality for women and girls, and global partnerships.
"The timing of the Global Citizen Festival - while world leaders are in New York for the United Nations General Assembly - will inspire citizens to become more informed and aware on the need to urgently accelerate progress on the MDGs." Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson said.
