Chief of Service David Bongi and Inspector Matthew Sullivan received the law enforcement partnership award at the annual New York Police Department (NYPD) 17th precinct medal awards ceremony on Friday 4 June 2010, to recognize their work and the achievements of the men and women of the UN Security and Safety Service.

The ceremony and dinner was well attended by the leadership and officers of the 17th Precinct as well as area community leaders.

Over the years the Security and Safety Service has developed a close and effective working relationship with the NYPD and in particular with the 17th Precinct which is where the UN Headquarters Complex and most of the annex buildings are located.

Nowhere is this cooperation more visible than during the heightened security periods surrounding the General Assembly Session and the numerous VIP visits to Headquarters.

The Security and Safety Service's Operational relationship with the 17th precinct as well as other elements of Host Country law enforcement serves to increase the level of protection afforded to staff, delegations and visitors alike, greatly enhancing the security environment at New York Headquarters.
