9 March 2010: Access to Memorial Ceremony on Tuesday, 9 March at Headquarters

[New  York | Author: iSeek]

As previously announced, the United Nations will hold a Memorial Ceremony at Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, 9 March at 10:00 a.m. New York time in honour of the 101 United Nations personnel who perished in the Haiti earthquake.

Since the General Assembly Hall is not available due to construction repairs, the ceremony will be held instead in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, with the Economic and Social Council Chamber and the “old” Conference Room 2 as overflow rooms.

A large number of family members of the deceased will be in attendance.  In addition, there will be senior officials, representatives of Member States, and representatives from the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti  (MINUSTAH) attending.

Admittance to the Trusteeship Council and ECOSOC Chambers will be by ticket only, due to the limited seating available.

Staff wishing to attend the ceremony in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, or watch via video-connection in the ECOSOC Chamber, will need to obtain tickets in advance.

Tickets will be distributed at two locations on a first-come, first-served basis on Monday, 8 March starting at 10 a.m. until all tickets have been distributed. The locations are:

Please note that on the day of the ceremony, staff must enter the Council chambers from the Third Floor.

The ceremony will also be webcast live .
