18 January 2010 / 10:19

[Dateline: New York, 17 January 2007]

Dear friends and colleagues,

We mourn today the loss of beloved members of our peacekeeping family.  It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the passing of our friends and colleagues:

Mr. Guido Galli, Political Affairs Officer (Italy)
Mr. Karimou Ide, Security Officer (Niger)
Ms. Andrea Loi Valenzuela, Human Rights Officer (Chile)
Ms. Lisa Mbele-Mbong, Human Rights Officer (USA)
Mr. Frederick Wooldridge, Political Affairs Officer (United Kingdom)
Mr. Guillaume Siemienski, Political Affairs Officer (Canada)

The situation in Haiti is fluid and all efforts are continuing to search and rescue.  As we move through this difficult period, we are committed to continue to provide you information regarding our colleagues in Haiti.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti, our UN colleagues in the field, their friends and their families.  We suffer the loss of our colleagues and friends and will honour their memory by ensuring that the highest principles of the Organization to which they dedicated their lives are honoured in our daily work and our continued commitment to the Haitian people."

Alain Le Roy, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations and Susana Malcorra, Under-Secretary-General for Field Support
