The Office was established to assist the Secretary-General in fulfilling his internal oversight responsibilities in respect of the resources and staff of the Organization through the exercise of monitoring, internal audit, inspection, evaluation and investigation.
Operationally independent, the Office has the authority to initiate, carry out and report on any action it considers necessary to fulfill its responsibilities with regard to its oversight functions.
Since its creation, the Office has expanded to include some 300 staff based in New York, Vienna, Geneva, Nairobi, as well as in 18 peacekeeping and other special missions.
To commemorate this special occasion, planning is underway for several events in October.
Additional details on these events will be provided at a later date.
