As of 2007, Bhutan has diplomatic relations with 22 countries (including EU), with resident ambassadors in India, Bangladesh, Bangkok, Kuwait and two UN mission offices in New York and Geneva. It has Honorary Consuls in 10 countries. It is a member of 45 international organizations. Only India and Bangladesh have residential embassies in Bhutan.

The United States and the Kingdom of Bhutan have not established formal diplomatic relations; however, the two governments have warm informal relations.
