Last week on Friday 5th September, the Pacific family of Permanent Representatives came together in New York to bid farewell to their dear colleague, H.E. Mr. Teburoro Tito, Permanent Representative of Kiribati to the United Nations.

It was a warm and heartfelt gathering, reflecting both the deep respect they hold for Ambassador Tito’s decades of dedicated service and the bonds of friendship that unite the Pacific. His voice has always carried wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the causes of our Blue Pacific Continent.

From 18–29 August 2025, the Pacific Small Island Developing States engaged actively at the second session of the BBNJ Preparatory Commission, here in New York.

The PSIDS advanced work on institutional arrangements, finance, and the clearing house mechanism, while reaffirming that the special circumstances of SIDS must guide implementation.

Today in Jamaica, our Climate Change Expert Mr Talavai Iona took the floor at the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Assembly with a compelling intervention, he stated that Tuvalu reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting our ocean, in which our culture, economy, and survival are anchored. As we mark ISA's 30th anniversary, Tuvalu called for stronger governance, deeper scientific integrity, and full transparency in decisions on deep-sea mining.

H.E. Tapugao Falefou, Permanent Representative of Tuvalu and Chair of PSIDS, delivered the PSIDS statement this morning at the UN General Assembly to mark the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter

He reaffirmed the Pacific’s longstanding commitment to the Charter’s principles, highlighting contributions to peacekeeping, international law, ocean governance, and climate diplomacy.

H.E. Mr. Tapugao Falefou, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tuvalu, who was invited by the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS) to participate in the High-Level Experts Group Meeting.

During this significant event, Ambassador Falefou delivered a keynote address on the vital topic of “Achieving Scale and Sustainability” in the establishment of an Online University dedicated to serving the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
