Tuvalu Calls for a Just and Equitable Energy Transition at the United Nations

At the High-Level Meeting on Critical Energy Transition Minerals held on Tuesday 14 July 2026 at the United Nations Trusteeship Council Chamber, Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Panapasi Nelesone shared Tuvalu’s perspective on supporting energy transition but emphasised that it must be grounded in equity, justice and responsible resource management. The transition provides an important opportunity for developing countries to strengthen energy security and diversify their economies.

Tuvalu Commissioner of Police Advocates Stronger Pacific Security Cooperation at UNCOPS 2026

Tuvalu Commissioner of Police, Mr. Matatia Makaili, and Inspector Mr. Eliu Luao participated in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), held in New York from 7–8 July 2026.

The Summit provided a valuable platform for police leaders to exchange good practices, discuss emerging security challenges, and strengthen partnerships between United Nations Police and national law enforcement agencies.

Tuvalu Chairs PSIDS Side Event on Sea Level Rise, Water Security and Livelihoods in the Pacific

Today, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tuvalu H.E Mr Tapugao Falefou had the honour of chairing the PSIDS side event on Sea Level Rise, Water Security and Livelihoods in the Pacific on the margins of the 2026 UN STI Forum, stepping in for H.E. Ambassador Tarakinikini of Fiji in the spirit of the PSIDS troika arrangement.

The conversation brought together Pacific experts, policymakers and international partners to examine the implications of rising seas for water security and livelihoods across our islands.
