Tuvalu Commissioner of Police, Mr. Matatia Makaili, and Inspector Mr. Eliu Luao participated in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), held in New York from 7–8 July 2026.

The Summit provided a valuable platform for police leaders to exchange good practices, discuss emerging security challenges, and strengthen partnerships between United Nations Police and national law enforcement agencies.

Today, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tuvalu H.E Mr Tapugao Falefou had the honour of chairing the PSIDS side event on Sea Level Rise, Water Security and Livelihoods in the Pacific on the margins of the 2026 UN STI Forum, stepping in for H.E. Ambassador Tarakinikini of Fiji in the spirit of the PSIDS troika arrangement.

The conversation brought together Pacific experts, policymakers and international partners to examine the implications of rising seas for water security and livelihoods across our islands.

Today, here in New York City, Dr. Tapugao Falefou joined fellow ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps during the State Visit programme at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at Ground Zero. The visit formed a solemn and reflective component of the official itinerary, as His Majesty King Charles III paid tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks.

Dr. Tapugao Falefou attended the British Ambassador’s garden party in Washington, D.C., joining a distinguished gathering of diplomats, government officials, community representatives, and international partners to mark the opening of the State Visit. The event provided a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and strengthen relationships within the diplomatic community.
