(Turkey joins African Development Bank)

At the annual meeting of the African Development Bank which was held in Maputo, Mozambique on 14-15 May 2008, Turkey has been admitted to the African Development Bank as the 25th non-regional member country.
Following Turkey's admission to the African Union in 2005 as an observer and becoming the Union's strategic partner at the Summit Meeting in Addisababa in January 2008, membership in the African Development Bank is yet another step which reflects Turkey's close interest in Africa and its wish to strengthen its relations in all fields with the African countries based on mutual benefit and respect.
Encouraged by this membership Turkey is even more determined to mobilize its economic capacity for the efforts towards the further development of the African continent.
