Today the preparatory meeting for the international meeting in Stockholm to be held 2-3 June 2022 and entitled “Stockholm + 50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all- our responsibility, our opportunity” was held in the General Assembly.
Stockholm+50 will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment.
The conference will consist of side events and 3 leadership dialogues on the following:
- Reflecting on the urgent need for actions to achieve a healthy planet and prosperity of all.
- Achieving a sustainable and inclusive recovery from the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
- Accelerating the implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development.
Countries were invited to contribute to the dialogues for Stockholm + 50 to ensure the conference will contribute effectively to addressing the climate crisis.
Suriname with its 93% of forest coverage, a wide range of ecosystems and its rich biodiversity contributes significantly to mitigating the effects of climate change and has delivered a statement in this regard to call for concrete action to tackle the adverse effects to climate change.
