The Coat
of Arms of Saint Lucia whose motto is "THE LAND, THE PEOPLE, THE
LIGHT" was designed by Mr. Sydney Bagshaw, and replaces the pre-Independence
Coat of Arms with the Virgilian legend for Port Castries - "Statio
Haud Malefida Carinis"- (a safe anchorage for ships) also designed
by Mr. Bagshaw in 1967.
It is representative
of the island's cultural heritage, its native fauna and flora, coupled
with its culture and history.
The Charges
on the Coat of Arms were chosen to represent the various peoples who
are part of the nation's heritage:
The
Tudor Rose - England
Fleur de Lys - France
The African Stool - Africa
The Torch - A beacon to light our path
The
St.Lucian Parrot (Amazona versicolor) – the National Bird
The
Motto: " THE LAND, THE PEOPLE, THE LIGHT"
The
Coat of Arms of Saint Lucia is the official Seal of the Government
of Saint Lucia. It may not be used or reproduced in any form without
the approval of the Government.
