Slovenia and the UN
Slovenia joined the United Nations on 22 May 1992, as the 176th Member State. Upon its admittance, the President of Slovenia, H.E. Mr. Milan
Kučan, delivered an acceptance speech in the General Assembly and presented the United Nations with a gift on behalf of the people of Slovenia. The gift is a replica of a bronze pail from the 6th century BC, called a situla, with hammered reliefs depicting cult feasts, animals and competitions. The situla from
Vače is of great cultural importance and its beautifully executed motifs also appear on official Slovenian documents.
