Oral Statements to the Press - November 1999
The President presides over the meetings of the Security Council and, under the authority of the Security Council, represents it in its capacity as an organ of the United Nations. The President of the Security Council therefore often speaks to the press after the informal consultations of the Council. These press statements broadly reflect the agreement among the Security Council members regarding the various issues discussed. In accordance with this practice, the President of the Security Council for the month of
