The seventeenth meeting of the States Parties of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) was held at UN Headquarters, New York on 29th June 2018. The agenda, inter alia, included the election of nine (9) members for the Committee on the Rights of the Child (Committee) to replace those who will complete their terms on 28 February 2019.
Ms Maliliga Sefululua Vasa, Principal Sector Planning Officer from the Ministry of Finance of Samoa attended the Fifty first Session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD51) that was held from the 9th – 13th April 2018.
Maliliga delivered the national statement for Samoa on the 11th April 2018, during the general debate of the CPD51. The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the Samoa Government to the ICPD Program of Action through national policies and programme implementation.
The sixty second session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) was held from the 12th – 23rd March 2018. The priority theme for CSW62 was “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.”
The President of the Republic of Marshall Islands, Her Excellency Ms Hilda Heine delivered the statement on behalf of the Pacific Islands Forum members for the Sixty Second session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) on the 12th March 2018.
Vanuatu’s Ambassador to the United Nations His Excellency Mr Odo Tevi delivered a statement on behalf of the Pacific Islands Forum states with Permanent Missions to the United Nations. The occasion was the general debate of the 2018 ECOSOC Operational Activities for Development Segment held on the 1 March 2018 at the United Nations Headquarters.
Mr Dominic Misiolo Sofe, First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Samoa delivered Samoa’s statement during the first session of the Executive Boards of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on 25th January 2018 during the UNFPA segment.
Ambassador Ali’ioaiga Feturi Elisaia delivered Samoa’s national statement at the first regular session 2018 of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on Monday 22nd January 2018. Ambassador took the floor during the UNDP segment following the statement by the UNDP Administrator, Mr. Achim Steiner. He acknowledged the vital work UNDP carries out in supporting developing countries in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.
Ambassador Aliioaiga Feturi Elisaia delivered Samoa’s national statement during the 16th Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the 7th December 2017. Samoa became a member of the Bureau of State Parties in 2005 and will conclude its term during the 16th Session of the ASP, making it 12 consecutive years of service.
Mrs. Miriama Betham – Malielegaoi, Chargé d’ affaires of the Permanent Mission of Samoa delivered the national statement during the 36th plenary meeting of the General Assembly whereby the report of the International Criminal Court (ICC) was presented by the President of the ICC, Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi.
Ali’ioaiga Feturi Elisaia, Samoa’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations delivered Samoa’s statement during the thematic discussion on Conventional Weapons in the UN Disarmament and International Security Committee (First Committee).
