State Secretary Anton Niculescu attended the second week of the general political debates
of the 62nd General Assembly session

 

Anton Niculescu, the State Secretary for Global Affairs attended the second week of the general political debates of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, in New York.

Between September 30 and October 6, the Romanian official took part in the ministerial meeting „Children and Armed Conflicts”, the ministerial meeting of the Community of Democracies, as well as the High-level Dialogue on Interreligious and Intercultural Understanding and Cooperation for Peace.

The statement delivered at the High-level Dialogue, convened as a plenary meeting of the General Assembly, focused on the important role that dialogue between religions and cultures must play on the global political agenda, inviting Member States to a worldwide participation at all levels.
 
The State Secretary also referred to the specific contribution of Romania to various international and regional initiatives, among which the Alliance of Civilizations, the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008, and different forms of cooperation in South-East Europe and the Black Sea Region. Romania hosted in September 2007, for the first time in a largely Orthodox country, the Third European Ecumenical Assembly, in Sibiu - European Culture Capital for 2007.
