"It is, with great pleasure, that I associate myself with the launching of the Web page of the Portuguese-Language Programme of the United Nations Radio.

It is a significant landmark. Being linked to the United Nations Web site, this information tool constitutes another step for promoting the Portuguese language, which is already spoken by more than 200 million people.

Portuguese language joins, thus, countries of different continents into a Community that we want to reinforce. In this time of globalization, we actualize the universalism that Portuguese language was, historically, a vehicle, projecting it now and for the future.

It is a common knowledge that the United Nations Radio has also a universal calling. We share its objectives towards peace, solidarity and development for all. That is what I find very grateful to reinsure in this special moment."
