Representative to the United Nations and President of the Security Council,

speech, Ambassador Baja paid tribute to UN personnel who were killed in
the line of duty and urged countries to ratify an agreement that extends

SECURITY COUNCIL VOTE ON IRAQ. Ambassador Lauro L. Baja
Jr., Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations, presides
over the meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday, 8 June 2004. In that
meeting, the 15-member body unanimously endorsed the turnover of sovereignty
to the new Iraqi interim government at the end of the month. On the right
of Ambassador Baja is United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. Seated

BAJA MEETS BRAHIMI. Ambassador Lauro L. Baja Jr., president of the United
Nations Security Council, discusses the situation in Iraq with Ambassador
Lakdar Brahimi, special representative to Iraq of Secretary General Kofi
Annan shortly before the Algerian envoy briefed the Security Council on
Monday, 7 June 2004. Ambassador Brahimi was responsible for putting together
the Interim Iraqi Government that would lead Iraq after the turnover of
