CURRICULUM VITAE AND DIPLOMATIC CAREER

U Win Mra, the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali 23 May 1994.

Prior to assuming his current post, Mr. Mra has been Myanmar's Ambassador to Israel since last August. He was a member of his country's delegation to the General Assembly in the fall 1993 and served previously in New York, from 1987 to1990, as Deputy Permanent Representative and Consul-General of Myanmar.

From 1992 to July 1993, Mr. Mra was the Deputy Director-General of the International Organizations and Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During that time, he served at Myanmar's Embassy in Bangkok as Minister,Charge d'affaire ad interim. From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Mra was the Deputy Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations at Geneva and other international organizations. From1984 to1987, he was the Assistant Director/ Deputy Director of the Research Division of the Foreign Ministry.

Having joined the diplomatic service in 1967, Mr. Mra served in various capacities at Myanmar's Embassies in Bangkok, Phnom Penh, New York and Paris from 1969 to 1984. Among the international meetings he attended are the Non-Aligned Summit Meetings and the World Conference on Human Rights.

Mr. Mra earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Yangon.

Born on 1 April 1942, he is married and has three children.
