CURRICULUM VITAE AND DIPLOMATIC CAREER

LEGWAILA JOSEPH MANSON  LEGWAILA, the Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United  Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, 14 April 1980. Mr. Legwaila has most recently served  as Senior Private Secretary to the  President of Botswana, a post he held from 1974 to 1980. From 1973 to1974, he was Assistant Principal  for External Affairs. He has attended various international conferences, including meetings of  the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the nonaligned countries, the frontline States and the Third  United Nations Conference an the  Law of the Sea. Born in 1937 in  Mothathane Village, Botswana, Mr. Legwaila studied at Serowe Teacher Training College in 1967, at Mount Royal College, Alberta, Canada in 1968, and 1968 to1972 at the University of Calgary, Canada from where he obtained a bachelor's degree in political science and history. He has a masters degree in political science from the University of Alberta. From 1958 to1965, Mr. Legwaila worked as a head teacher. He is married and has one doughter.
