One hundred and thirty United Nations staff and officials played a key role in a process that culminated on 7 August 2014 when the Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) found former Khmer Rouge leaders Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan guilty of crimes against humanity. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Governments of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom signed a Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA) this week in support of the Economic Commission’s 2014-2015 programme of work. According to the agreement, the funding partners will provide $US $10.9 million for the year 2014, in support of ECA’s activities.

The first United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) – the highest-level global platform for environmental policy making – will take place next month in Nairobi, tackling issues ranging from wildlife crime and poaching to fossil fuel subsidy reform and beyond. UNEA, which takes place from 23-27 June 2014, will meet biennially beginning this year.
