Dear Visitor,
Welcome to Lithuania's
window to the United Nations and your window to Lithuania. This website will allow you
to get closer to the small piece of land on a coast of the Baltic
Sea.
Lithuania
was mentioned in the Quedlinburg Annuals for the first time in 1009. In 1253
the first Lithuanian king Mindaugas was coroneted. In the 14th-15th centuries Lithuania stretched out from the Baltic to the
Black Sea and was one of the most powerful states in the Eastern Europe, but
later more than once it was occupied by the neighbouring countries and the
state of Lithuania
vanished from world maps. The striving of Lithuanians to live in a free and
independent state came true on February 16, 1918. However, in 1940 Lithuania was
occupied again, but it restored its independence on March 11, 1990. On
September 17, 1991 Lithuania
became a full-fledged member of the United Nations. In 2004 Lithuania joined
European Union and NATO.
We consider ourselves a true European nation with a strong feeling of the
need for close regional and global cooperation. You will witness that while
browsing through the site. As our page will be constantly expanding, be sure to
expect more useful information whenever you log in.
Although Internet is an informational breakthrough, it will not fully
replace the feeling of the human contact with our small but young, talented and
energetic staff, which will always gladly assist you.
Have a pleasant info-journey!
