ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL 
Informal pre-session information briefing on major issues before the UNICEF Executive Board at its second regular session (9-12 September 2014) will take place on 27 August 2014, from 10:00 to 13:00, in Conference Room 3 (CB).

A pre-session informal meeting in advance of the second regular session of the Executive Board of United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) will take place on 28 August 2014,  from 10:00 to 13:00, in Conference Room 3 (CB).

One hundred and thirty United Nations staff and officials played a key role in a process that culminated on 7 August 2014 when the Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) found former Khmer Rouge leaders Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan guilty of crimes against humanity. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Following the DPKO/DFS study on understanding and integrating local perceptions released in November 2013, accompanying Guidelines are now available. The Guidelines provide a hands-on tool for field-based civilian and uniformed peacekeeping personnel with the aim of supporting more inclusive, responsive and effective peacekeeping.

ECA’s reform gets a shot in the arm

The Governments of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom signed a Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA) this week in support of the Economic Commission’s 2014-2015 programme of work. According to the agreement, the funding partners will provide $US $10.9 million for the year 2014, in support of ECA’s activities.
