UNMUM: A collaboration between UN and Member States

DPKO-DFS in collaboration with 40 Member States and field missions are developing 11 United Nations military manuals to standardize military contributions to peacekeeping operations. The project, called United Nations Military Units Manuals (UNMUM), kick-started officially in November 2013 by the Office of Military Affairs.

UN70 – a ‘ReBirth’ in Geneva

Plans for a monumental sculpture called “The ReBirth” to celebrate the United Nations’ 70th anniversary have been unveiled in Geneva. Designed by world-renowned Italian artist Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto, the sculpture will be located in Ariana Park and inaugurated on UN Day next year - 24 October 2015 – during an Open Day at the Palais des Nations.

DPKO continues successful Rule of Law training programme

DPKO has successfully concluded on 1 November a Rule of Law training programme for Judicial Affairs officers in peacekeeping operations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The 6-day training focused on strategies to assist national actors to strengthen rule of law in the immediate aftermath of conflict through early peacebuilding initiatives.

First Thematic Resolution on Police Adopted by Security Council

Under the Chairmanship of Australia, the Security Council adopted the first standalone resolution on police today, Thursday 20 November 2014, a major normative milestone. United Nations Police (UNPOL) activities in peace operations have grown in an unprecedented manner and evolved considerably since 1960, when the first police officers arrived in the United Nations Operation in the Congo.
