Trafficking in Women and Girls: Meeting the Challenge Together (Russian version)
'Trafficking in Women and Girls: Meeting the Challenge Together' International Conference was organized by Belarus, the Philippines, UNODC and Vital Voices Global Partnership. The first global and all-engaging forum on human trafficking ever held in the UN Headquarters, the conference gathered over 400 people from more than 90 Member States, around 20 international organisations and over 100 NGOs. The Forum was attended by heads of national ministries dealing with gender issues and social development, chives of law enforcement agencies, heads of major international organizations of the UN system.

The conference focused on discussing the current state and degree of coordination of efforts of national governments, international organisations and civil society in fighting trafficking in persons, gaps and obstacles on the way to coordinated and coherent response to human trafficking by international community, gender-based and gender-sensitive anti-trafficking measures, plan of further actions of the United Nations in this regard. The conference was addressed by H.E. Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Dalius Cekuolis, President of the ECOSOC, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, UN Deputy Secretary-General. They welcomed the initiative of the governments of Belarus and the Philippines and their partners to hold an international conference on fighting human trafficking. They also noted that the conference would be a supportive factor for the activities led by different actors on fighting trafficking in persons worldwide and would encourage their higher effectiveness.

At the conference Belarus made two presentations. H.E. Natalya Petkevich, Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, in her statement presented a system of national measures on combating human trafficking. She stressed the need to improve international coordination in anti-trafficking activities under the aegis of the UN and to elaborate a UN strategy on fighting this social phenomenon.

H.E. Vladimir Naumov, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, in his presentation underscored efforts of Belarus in investigating and preventing human trafficking. He also spoke about successful cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies and international organizations on combating trafficking in persons.

H.E. Natalia Petkevich and H.E..Vladimir Naumov also gave a press conference to international mass media.

The conference became an important step in establishing the Global Partnership Against Slavery and Trafficking in Human Beings in the XXI century initiated by Belarus. Delegates agreed to continue discussion on preventing human trafficking in a large multilateral format, including international fora.
