Bahrain and the United Nations

In 1971, the State of Bahrain was admitted as a member to the United Nations under Resolution 296 (1971) co-sponsored by the Afro-Asian Group.

In a speech delivered by His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed Bin Mubarak Al-Khalifa --- Minister of Foreign Minister, Acting Minister of Information and Chairman of the Delegation of Bahrain to the United Nations --- during the 1971 General Assembly, Bahrain expressed its belief that the promotion of world peace and the preservation of security and stability in the Gulf region are essential for the political and the economic development of the people of Bahrain.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has been involved in various United Nations Programs and Initiatives.
