My United States visa is expiring. Can I travel to the Bahamas to visit the United States Embassy and obtain a new visa?

No. The US Embassy in the Bahamas only issues visas to Bahamians.

 

I am a student with an I- 20 from and a passport. What is required for travel to The Bahamas?

If you are from a country that does not require a visa to visit The Bahamas, you will need a valid passport along with a valid I-20 from. If you are from a country that requires a visa you will need to apply for a visa and provide a copy of your I-20 form.

 

Note: The same applies to a foreign exchange student with a valid IAP-66 from.

 

I am a student and my F-1 student visa has expired. Can I travel to The Bahamas?

Yes. Students may travel to The Bahamas for a visit not exceeding 30 days once the I-20 from is valid and has been signed by the attending institution.

 

Note: I-20 form is valid if it was issued in the last year or if it has been endorsed within the last year by a school official.

 

I am a student and my F-1 visa is single entry only. Can I travel to The Bahamas?

Yes you may travel to The Bahamas as long as your I-20 is valid.

 

Note: The same applies to a foreign exchange student holding a J1 visa and a valid IAP-66 from.

I am now ready to apply for a visa, what else do I need to accompany my application?

Once you are ready to submit an application for a Travel Visa to the Bahamas, the other Items necessary are listed under the " Visa Application Items." heading.

    1. 1 completed application form. (Completed Application Form Must be signed by applicant).

    2. Valid Passport  (passports must not expire within  six months of application).

    3. Valid United States Multiple Entry Visa or Proper Documentation to enter a third country.

    4. ONE (1) Passport photo taken within the last year (black and white or color).

    5. Visa fee (Cash, Money order or Travelers Check only) Single Entry Visa -$55.00. Multiple- Entry Visa - $65.00

    6. .If paying in cash- please have  exact amount. Otherwise, please make payment payable to "The Bahamas Consulate General. Citizens of Haiti and Lithuania require an additional Fee of $20.00 (Referral Fee). This Fee is Non- Refundable if your application is refused. "Please do not send personal checks."

    7. Proof of travel plans (original and copy). i.e. return ticket, cruise voucher or travel itinerary.

    8. Please Note the following:

      Turn over period

      •    If hand delivered, 24 to 48 hours

      •     If delivered by mail 24 hours to one (!) week

      •     ** referrals- up to six (6) weeks**

      **Same day issuance is considered only in exceptional cases**

Applicants holding "F", "J" or "H" status must submit the additional documents listed under this heading.

  • VALID 1-20 Form signed by International Foreign Student Advisor;  

  • VALID 1AP-66 Form signed by International Foreign Student  Advisor;  

  • VALID approval petition for H-1 signed by the Immigration and Naturalization Services. 

Can I apply by mail?

Yes. If applying by mail: Payment for return postage by either certified mail, registered mail, post office next day service, federal express, etc. Must be submitted.
