Argentina, one of the 51 Founding Members of the Organization, has been an active participant in all of the UN organs and programs, in accordance with our Foreign Policy, and has endeavored to build consensus at the international level towards the strengthening of international  human  rights, the  promotion  of  universal values associated with peace and security, with the democratic representation and with the fulfillment and promotion of human rights.

Thus, with a dynamic and constructive role, Argentina has reaffirmed its allegiance to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, with a view to making a positive contribution to the Organization’s goals, in its quest for international peace and security as well as the promotion of economic and social development in every nation.

Argentina plays a prominent role in the strengthening of the multilateral process, an element inseparable from security, so as to effectively respond to new threats and challenges. Accordingly, it was elected for a non-permanent seat in the Security Council for the term 2005-2006 and had the honor to preside the Security Council in the month of January 2005.

Bearing in mind the goal of unanimous decisions, Argentina has established a series of priorities for its mandate, in order for the Security Council to be able to build a safer world as an integrated body.
