Presidency of the Security Council in September: United States

GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The sixty-ninth session. 1st plenary  of the General Assembly will convene at United Nations Headquarters on 16 September 2014, at 15:00 in the General Assembly Hall. The General Debate will open on 24 September 2014 (resolution 57/301 and decision 68/512).

Informal briefing, chaired by the Chair of the Advisory Committee on the United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law, on 17 September 2014, at 15:00, in Conference Room 6 (GAB).

ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL                                     
Briefing for Sixth Committee delegates on the Committee items on the provisional agenda of the sixty-ninth session of the General Assembly will be held on 16 September 2014, from 10:00 to 13:00, in the Economic and Social Council Chamber (CB).

One hundred and thirty United Nations staff and officials played a key role in a process that culminated on 7 August 2014 when the Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) found former Khmer Rouge leaders Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan guilty of crimes against humanity. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Following the DPKO/DFS study on understanding and integrating local perceptions released in November 2013, accompanying Guidelines are now available. The Guidelines provide a hands-on tool for field-based civilian and uniformed peacekeeping personnel with the aim of supporting more inclusive, responsive and effective peacekeeping.
